MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – South Florida law enforcement agencies are enhancing their presence following U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that the agency is “actively monitoring the situation in the Middle East.”
“Out of an abundance of caution, we are increasing patrols throughout the county,” agency officials said.
Miami Beach police are enhancing patrols at Jewish schools and synagogues.
“We have no reason to believe there’s any credible threat,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “We have a high-risk protocol in place to make sure we have a very highly visible police presence to keep our city safe.”
A spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office said the agency is monitoring the situation in the Middle East and has been in an enhanced mode, consistently working with state and federal law enforcement.
South Florida is host to many high-profile events that already draw big crowds and throngs of law enforcement.
Dean Trantalis, Fort Lauderdale’s mayor, said no extra police were called to Sunday’s parade to celebrate the Florida Panthers’ Stanley Cup win.
A spokesperson for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said the increased police presence was standard protocol “and was not connected to any recent military activity or events.”
