Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they were dispatched in emergency mode to a home near the 6300 block of Southwest 149th Place after a 911 call captured the sounds of a “struggle heard on an open line.”

Upon arrival, deputies said they spoke with Diaz’s wife, who said an argument had broken out inside the home between her daughter and another family member over clothes being removed from a drying machine.

Diaz’s wife told police that he became “irate” after she defended her daughter over the other family member and that he forcefully grabbed her by the neck, leaving a visible mark and a scratch on her cheek.

She told deputies that she began to feel faint due to the “defendant impeding her breathing,” according to the report.

She also told deputies that Diaz then struck her daughter on the top of the head, the report stated.

Authorities said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel treated all parties at the scene and Diaz was medically cleared before being taken into custody.

Jail records show he is facing one count each of domestic battery by strangulation and domestic battery.

As of Thursday, Diaz is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be set.”
