Anthony Paniagua was taken into custody Friday morning and faces one felony charge each of official misconduct and perjury, according to MCSO spokesperson Adam Linhardt.

Linhardt said Paniagua made false entries in MCSO’s records “related to his timesheet and then gave false statements when questioned about the discrepancies.”

He said Paniagua has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending a pre-termination hearing.

“I will continue to keep the public informed of every important event that happens at the Sheriff’s Office — both positive and negative,” Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay said in a statement released to Local 10 News on Friday.

Jail records show Paniagua’s arraignment is scheduled for July 17 at 9 a.m. His age and the location of his arrest were not immediately available.
