Deputies said the young girl was found around 3:40 a.m., floating in the pool of a home in the 100 block of Northwest 90th Street.

“That a 4-year-old at 3 o’clock in the morning would be outside, it’s to me, a little bit alarming,” a neighbor identified only as Barbra said.

Saturday live report:

“Three o’clock in the morning is just unusual,” another neighbor, Harold Baptiste, said. “My heart goes out to them. I’m very sorry for them.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported the girl to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center as she was in cardiac arrest.

First responders tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The girl’s mother returned to the home later Thursday with her attorney.

“I’ve been with her the whole morning -- she is very sad, very distraught,” attorney Richard Cooper said.

Cooper confirmed that the family was renting the home while they were in South Florida on vacation and described the girl’s death as a horrible accident.

According to MDSO, the agency’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation from the El Portal Police Department.
