PALM BEACH, Fla. – WPLG-TV President and CEO Bert Medina has been inducted into the Florida Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Medina joined the exclusive club during a Florida Association of Broadcasters gala and awards ceremony at the Breakers in Palm Beach on Thursday night.
“I would like to thank the FAB and the many professionals that I have been fortunate to work with and learn from throughout my career. And especially the team at WPLG, which in my opinion is the best team in the industry,” said Medina.
In 2013, Medina joined WPLG-TV, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway.
“He’s done a wonderful job since he took it over. Just look at our ratings over the last 10 years or so since our purchase. That hasn’t been me. I haven’t done anything,” said Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway Chairman & CEO.
Hall of Fame inductees are chosen based on their distinguished professional career directly tied to Florida, devoting a minimum of 25 years to the industry.
“Bert has had a free hand, and you have to give people a free hand if you expect them to perform. Particularly when they earned the right by what they’ve accomplished,” said Buffett.
Medina was born in Cuba and moved to South Florida when he was 7.
The Florida International University graduate has served the South Florida community for three decades.
After 14 years with Sunbeam Television Corporation/WSVN-TV, Medina joined Univision Communications and then served as Senior Vice President and Operating Manager at TeleFutura.
“When I look at what stories or moments stand out, Hurricane Andrew would be one of them. And also, the shooting in Parkland, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. Those two were moments where we did what local broadcasters do best, and that is serve our community and keep them informed at the moment when they needed it most,” said Medina.
The 2025 Florida Broadcasters Hall of Fame Inductees include broadcasters from both radio and television.
