The suspect, who was identified in an arrest report Tuesday by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office as 23-year-old Sheldon Lewis Beck, was arrested on Sunday.
According to the report, the incident occurred on May 14 just before 11 a.m. at the Home Depot located at 13895 SW 288th St.
The victim told investigators he walked into the men’s restroom and saw a fully naked, heavyset man “with his hands near his private area” near an open stall, the report stated.
Moments later, while using the adjacent handicap stall, deputies said the victim noticed a black cellphone with three vertical camera lenses recording him from the next stall.
When the victim confronted the man, the suspect reportedly apologized and said, “I will delete it,” according to the report.
The victim then ran out of the restroom to alert store management, keeping an eye on the restroom exit, the report stated.
Shortly after, deputies said Beck exited the restroom and the victim pointed him out to staff, at which point he pulled out a large can of pepper spray and sprayed the victim in the face and upper body.
Authorities said Beck then walked out of the store with the pepper spray still in hand.
Store employees noted the suspect was wearing a Burger King uniform, and a manager at the Burger King next door confirmed that Beck was an employee, according to the report.
Deputies said Beck was also identified by a Burger King manager through surveillance video and by the victim through a photo lineup.
Investigators said they found Beck sitting outside his residence near Southwest 217th Street on Monday. They said he was taken into custody without incident and transported to MDSO’s South District station.
While being processed, authorities said Beck became combative and bit one deputy on the wrist and forearm.
They said the cellphone used in the alleged recording was recovered and matched the victim’s description.
Deputies said Beck was later evaluated at Jackson South Medical Center and later booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Jail records shows he is facing one count each of video voyeurism and battery.
Beck appeared in a Miami-Dade courtroom Tuesday, where a judge set his bond at $12,650. He was placed on house arrest and ordered to stay away from the Home Depot where the alleged incident occurred.
Local 10 News has requested a statement from Burger King regarding the status of Beck’s employment and is awaiting a response.
Home Depot asked Local 10 to refer to law enforcement we asked for a a statement.
