MIAMI – An investigation remains ongoing after a woman was injured when she fell from a rising drawbridge in Miami.
The victim, a 49-year-old Miami woman, has been hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital since her fall from the Brickell Avenue Bridge on Saturday.
A new report released by police shows the woman had been on the bridge way before her fall for at least 40 minutes, with the bridge attendant at one point asking her to leave.
Video shows her trying to hold on before she eventually fell on the concrete below.
The bridge attendant, who works for Florida Draw Bridges, Inc. is seen on video telling a responding officer the woman had been hanging out at the bridge way before her fall and that she appeared to be acting erratically.
It was around 10 a.m. Saturday when the attendant asked the woman to remove herself from the bridge because he needed to open it, an incident report revealed.
Eventually the woman was out of sight, and the attendant raised the bridge.
According to the report:
“At some point the person reporting observed the subject of report remove herself from the bridge but made her way to approximately the midpoint of the bridge at 10:18 (a.m.) and sat on the ground making the person reporting unable to see her.”
Then 19 minutes later, Miami police say the attendant cleared the bridge again.
“I didn’t see her come back because she went north,” the attendant said.
Per the incident report:
“At 10:39 the bridge ascended again to let boats proceed through when the subject of report was hanging on the bridge and ultimately fell to the ground.”
Authorities said woman was rushed to the hospital, suffering serious injuries to both of her legs.
Police will not be releasing her identity yet as the investigation continues.
