WESTON, Fla. – Cuban-American actor William Levy has been accepted into a misdemeanor diversion program following his arrest earlier this year at a Weston restaurant, according to court records obtained by Local 10 News on Tuesday.

Levy, of Southwest Ranches, was arrested in April after deputies said he became intoxicated and refused to leave Baires Grill, an upscale Argentinian restaurant located at 2210 Weston Road on April 14.
The 44-year-old, who is widely known for his roles in telenovelas, Hollywood films, and as a former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant, was initially charged with one count each of disorderly intoxication and trespassing.
As part of the diversion program, filed on June 20, Levy can avoid a criminal conviction by completing court-ordered requirements that may include counseling, community service or alcohol education classes.
The program is typically offered to first-time, non-violent offenders in Broward County.
Previously released 911 recordings obtained by Local 10 News heard restaurant employees describe a chaotic scene the night of the incident.
“They are drinking too much and they don’t want to leave, they don’t want to pay the check so … we try to give them discount … they are getting into an argument with another customer and they are getting more aggressive,” one caller told dispatchers.
Deputies said Levy was given multiple orders to leave and a trespass warning, but he ignored commands and was taken into custody.
He later bonded out of the Broward County Main Jail and told reporters he had been trying to deescalate an argument between others.
Levy has acted in numerous telenovelas and also starred and appeared in various Hollywood flicks such as “Girls Trip” and Tyler Perry’s “Addicted.”
