DORAL, Fla. – As the death toll climbs to more than 100 following devastating flooding in Texas, South Floridians are stepping up to help the victims.
Volunteers at the Global Empowerment Mission in Doral packed supplies Tuesday, including family necessity kits with essential items like water, hygiene products and food, and dignity kits with personal care items for women who lost everything.
Project leader Santiago Neira said it was a blessing to be able to help, even just slightly.
“Our recent efforts are towards the Kerr County, Texas floods,” he said. “Yesterday, at 7 a.m. we loaded our first truck with 30 pallets of aid.”
Those interested in helping can visit GEM’s website.
“Everything is important here, because it ends up in the hands that need it,“ GEM volunteer Roy Applegate said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews are also launching to aid in search and rescue efforts.
