SWEETWATER, Fla. – It’s been another difficult couple of days for those in the Li’l Abner Mobile Home Park in Sweetwater.

Residents say their power was cut Saturday morning, leaving them to deal with hot and humid weather and no way to cool their homes.

It was finally restored Sunday afternoon.

“We just stayed outside the house most of the day and when we needed to go to sleep, we just sleep with the windows open,” one resident told Local 10 News.

Another resident said in Spanish that at least five homes were affected and they called FPL several times to get the power back on.

Hundreds of people remain in the community despite eviction notices that went out last year.

Back in May, residents were given a final deadline to leave.

Still, many continue to live there as a class action lawsuit aimed at halting the evictions and holding the property owners accountable works its way through the courts.

It’s not the first time residents in the Li’I Abner community have dealt with power issues in the last couple of months.

Some residents believe the contractors demolishing some of the homes there are responsible for the issues.
