MIAMI – There has been an outpouring of support for former NFL quarterback and Miami Northwestern High School football coach Teddy Bridgewater.
He’s in hot water at his coaching job at his alma mater.
The new championship coach took to Facebook earlier this month asking for donations, saying he’d already shelled out his own money to cover the basics for some of his players, like Uber rides and physical therapy, and that he’s been suspended for providing these things.
Since the news broke, there has been plenty of talk on the radio and social media about the situation.
Former NFL quarterback and commentator Robert Griffin III wrote that Bridgewater was just “taking care of his players when they were in need.”
Late Monday, Miami-Dade County Public Schools told Local 10 News:
“While we recognize the community’s passion for supporting student-athletes and the contributions to the school’s recent athletic success, M-DCPS holds all programs to the highest standards of integrity and compliance. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has clear guidelines regarding impermissible benefits, and we are committed to upholding those standards across all our athletic programs. The District is cooperating fully with the FHSAA to ensure all policies and procedures are being followed.”
The investigation remains open and active.
