Red Lobster overhauls menu; brings back favorite item

Red Lobster is making some menu changes after filing for bankruptcy.

Rolling out this week is an overhauled menu that is 20 percent smaller but has nine new items.

This includes bringing back the beloved hush puppies.

Red Lobster emerged from bankruptcy in September under new ownership, led by one of its lenders, Fortress Investment Group, which has initially committed 60 million dollars to revitalize the chain.

Earlier this year, Red Lobster said that it had more than $1 billion in debt and closed some locations of its nearly 600 restaurants this summer.

17 of the restaurants in Florida closed their doors in June, including locations in Orlando and Jacksonville.

The Red Lobster in Hialeah quietly closed its doors in May. The kitchen equipment for the location was even put up for auction on an online restaurant liquidator listing Hialeah on its site.

The following locations in Miami-Dade, Broward and West Palm Beach locations remain open:

- 11550 SW 88th St., Miami (Kendall)

- 13300 Biscayne Blvd., North Miami

-1695 NW 87th Avenue, Doral

- 2000 University Dr., Coral Springs

- 5950 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale

-2900 Oakwood Blvd., Hollywood

-296 N University Drive, Pembroke Pines

-803 S. University Drive, Plantation

- 2201 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., West Palm Beach
