Falafel bites distributed in Florida recalled due to E. coli risk

Falafel bites from Florida are being recalled in connection with the recent nationwide recall of organic carrots.

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, New Jersey-based Fabalish said one of the ingredient suppliers for its Fabalish Kickin’ Carrot Falafel Bites receives the product from Grimmway Farms, which recalled whole and baby organic carrots after they were linked to an outbreak of E. coli O121:H19.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Saturday that Grimmway Farms issued the initial recall for the carrots sold in over a dozen brands including Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, GreenWise, 365, Nature’s Promise, and Bunny-Luv.

A CDC map tracking the reported cases showed most of the cases that started in September were in Washington, New York, Minnesota, Oregon, and California.

The falafel bites were distributed in FL, NY, WA, TN, CA, IN, OH, IL, NH, VA, GA, NE, CO, UT, KS, TX, MA & MT. These products were sold directly to consumers through the Fabalish website.

This product comes in a 10 oz orange box and labeled as “Fabalish Kickin’ Carrot Falafel Bites” with the lot code 260925 found on the side flap.

No illnesses have been reported to date.
