Frequent flier benefits for United Airlines and JetBlue Airways may soon be used to book flights on either airline.
The companies announced an agreement Thursday that would allow JetBlue’s TrueBlue members and United’s MileagePlus members to earn and use their miles on flights operated by either of the airlines.
If the deal is approved by regulators, it would be called “Blue Sky” and would allow customers to also use their benefits, including preferred seating, free baggage and priority seating on either airline.
Fare prices for both companies would also be displayed on each other’s websites and apps.
The agreement would also mean that United Airlines would allow JetBlue more flights out of John F. Kennedy Airport in New York as early as 2027.
