TAMPA, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill to move forward with the state’s 2024-25 budget Wednesday afternoon in Downtown Tampa.
DeSantis said the $116.5 billion budget included investments in education, water, and transportation while yielding over $17 million in reserves.

“This budget is less than last year, and we are still able to do all this,” DeSantis said.
Shawn Hamilton, the state’s environmental protection secretary; Jared Perdue, the state’s transportation secretary; and Manny Diaz Jr., the state’s education commissioner also attended the news conference.
DeSantis also spoke against the legalization of marijuana and the use of surgeries to treat gender dysphoria in minors. Senior Judge Robert Hinkle decided to throw out a Florida law affecting transgender children on Tuesday.
“How you are born is what you are,” DeSantis said.
The event was at The Vault, an event venue, at 611 North Franklin St. DeSantis said the city has “really boomed” under his administration.
