TALLAHASEE, Fla. ā As Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency make waves in Washington, Governor Ron DeSantis said he will start a similar effort in Florida.
In Tampa on Monday, DeSantis announced that a newly created DOGE Task Force will take a closer look at spending by state government, universities and even by local government.
āI am excited by this effort, to take some of what weāve seen in Washington, that theyāre doing with Elon Musk to apply it to Florida. In both our local government and our universities,ā said DeSantis.
DeSantis said hundreds of state positions could be cut. He said he hopes to emulate Musk, who has recently seen what he called the āchainsaw for bureaucracy.ā
The governor also commented about reports that his wife, First Lady Casey DeSantis, could run for governor in 2026.
āSheās never angled for anything because thatās just not what she does. but I will tell you this, youāre talking about somebody like her, I won by the biggest margin a Republican has ever won a race in Florida. She would do better than me, thereās no question about that,ā said DeSantis.
Casey DeSantis has not made any announcements about her future. Last week, President Trump endorsed U.S. Congressman Byron Donalds for Florida Governor.
Donalds, a Florida Republican, has been a prominent surrogate for Trump on the campaign trail and cable news.
