DeSantis touted Florida’s economic growth and infrastructure investments, saying the state has outpaced the nation’s economy since he took office in 2018.
Speaking from a podium labeled “Infrastructure and Workforce,” DeSantis said Florida’s economy has grown by 30% during his tenure — double the national rate — and has gained more than a trillion dollars in total revenue.
The governor highlighted tax relief measures, including a tax-free status on diapers, and said he is exploring ways to eliminate the state’s business rent tax.
“We’ve found ways to reduce business rent, and the state is in position to do this because of the growth and all the money coming in,” DeSantis said.
He attributed Florida’s financial success to policies that differ from states like New York, California and Illinois.
“I have a cheat code on how to manage the budget — and it’s do the opposite of what they’re doing,” he said.
DeSantis also announced infrastructure improvements aimed at boosting logistics and shipping.
He outlined plans to enhance ramp access on Interstate 4, State Road 60 and State Road 27 to alleviate congestion and improve freight movement.
Additionally, he said the state is working to expand shipping and rail opportunities.
As part of that effort, DeSantis presented a $1.5 million check to the Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center in Winter Haven to support business expansion and job creation.
DeSantis noted that he was in Miami Beach last week and vowed that “the inmates will not run the asylum,” announcing plans to increase law enforcement presence in the city during Spring Break 2025.
DeSantis was joined by FloridaCommerce Secretary Alex Kelly.
