Marlins acquire Jake Burger, Josh Bell at MLB Trade Deadline, per reports

Garrett Cooper, Jean Segura traded away in separate deadline deals

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins are adding some big bats at the MLB Trade Deadline.

According to insider Craig Mish, the Marlins are acquiring slugger Jake Burger from the Chicago White Sox.

Chicago is receiving prospect pitcher Jake Eder in the dead, per Mish.

Entering play Tuesday, Burger was in a three-way tie for third-most home runs in the American League with 25.

He’s got a slash line of .214/.279/.527 over 294 at bats with Chicago this season, adding 52 RBIs and 44 runs scored.

Miami wasn’t done there, also trading for Josh Bell from the Cleveland Guardians and pitcher Ryan Weathers from the San Diego Padres, per Mish.

The Marlins are sending Garret Cooper and Sean Reynolds to the Padres in the Weathers deal, while Bell was acquired for Jean Segura and Kahlil Watson, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Bell is slashing .233/.318/.383 this season with 11 home runs and 48 RBIs for Cleveland, while Weathers has a 1-6 record with a 6.25 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.

Miami is currently in a three-way tie for the final Wild Card spot in the National League, holding a 57-50 record.
