MIAMI – It took 18 games, but the 6-4 defeat vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday at loanDepot park marked the first time Clayton McCullough’s Miami Marlins were swept in 2025.

There were some good things we saw from the series finale, including the return of third baseman Connor Norby, who was unavailable for the first 17 games due to injury.

Norby closed the afternoon 1-for-5 with two strikeouts.

The hits were there Thursday for the Marlins, finishing with 13, the second-most recorded this season.

However, with good comes the bad and that began with right-handed pitcher Edward Cabrera, coughing up a season-worst five runs in four innings of work, including a solo home run from Pavin Smith, a Jupiter, Florida native, who homered for the second straight day.

Arizona smacked nine home runs in the three games.

The Marlins certainly had their chances – leaving 15 runners on base. Griffin Conine opened the bottom of the ninth inning with an opposite-field double, leaving some hope for the Marlins to complete a comeback in a game they trailed by as many as four.

Conine would move to third on a two-out wild pitch, but was stranded.

Riding a season-high three-game losing streak, the Marlins will take their 8-10 record into Citizens Bank Park, opening a three-game set against Philadelphia Friday at 6:40 p.m. ET.
