PHILADELPHIA – Saturday’s 11-10 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park meant five straight losses for the Miami Marlins, but the team will now likely be without one of its young, rising players for the foreseeable future.
Griffin Conine, the son of Marlins great Jeff Conine, left the game in the sixth inning.

Trailing 9-1 with runners on first and third and one out, Conine came through, smoking an RBI double to right-center field, but immediately grabbed his left shoulder and was in severe pain after diving into second base.
Conine, along with the help of a Marlins trainer, left the field and there was immediate concern surrounding the dugout.
“It’s unfortunate that that happened, because that’s what this guy does – he only knows one way to play,” manager Clayton McCullough said. “Unfortunate there; he’s going in for the hustle double, and he just kind of hit the ground a little awkwardly.”
According to the Marlins, Conine was later diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder and continues to undergo further testing and evaluation.
On Sunday he was placed on the 60-day injured list.
Conine came into Saturday batting .279, hitting a home run and driving in five runs through 19 games.
The injury could not have come at a worse time for the Marlins, who put outfielder Derek Hill on the 10-day injured list a day prior due to a left wrist sprain.
Utility man Javier Sanoja replaced Conine in left field.
The Marlins close their three-game series against the Phillies on Easter Sunday – with former Marlins left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo squaring off against his former team.
