MIAMI – No one expected Inter Miami to make noise during the FIFA Club World Cup; the club went ahead and proved everyone wrong.

Out of the three Major League Soccer clubs in the tournament, Inter Miami was the only club to win a game.
That win came over Portuguese giant FC Porto, and it was groundbreaking.
Inter Miami became the first MLS club to beat a European club in an official competition. It also made CONCACAF history, as it was the first team in the confederation’s history to beat a European team in a FIFA international tournament.
The two other MLS clubs in the tournament – LAFC and Seattle Sounders – failed to win any of their games, going a combined zero wins, one draw, and five losses.
With Inter Miami winning one game and drawing two, it qualified for the round of 16.
The club had to face off against the European champions, Paris Saint Germain, last Sunday. If the club would have beaten Brazilian side Palmeiras in its last game, the match-up would have been Botafogo instead.
The match against PSG also marked history for Lionel Messi. It was his first time facing off against one of his former clubs.
Inter Miami’s historic run came to an abrupt end once it faced off versus PSG.
PSG scored four first half goals, while Inter Miami couldn’t even get into their attacking half.
The game ended 4-0 in PSG’s favor as the French champions knocked Inter Miami out of the Club World Cup.
It was a successful tournament for Miami. The club is only 6 years old and it continues to add more historic pedigree.
Miami now returns to its MLS regular season with the next game on Saturday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Montreal.
