Powell, 32, averaged 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 48.4% shooting for the Clippers last season.
Powell said, “Obviously it’s a shock because you’re not expecting it. You just had a career year and you’re led to believe that you’re going to have some extension talks.”
Powell said that he was excited about going to the Heat.
Powell said that he had heard great things about the Heat organization from former teammates.
Also, he grew up as a Heat fan and in particular Dwyane Wade.
Powell said, “Thinking back to my childhood and being a big fan of Dwyane Wade and watching the Heat growing up and wanting to play for the Heat as a childhood dream... it’s definitely a cool, full circle moment for me.”
Powell said he was both shocked and excited for the opportunity.
