There is so much rich history in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. Many of the buildings and businesses are where great musicians played and partied in the days of segregation, and this weekend, some of those same places are holding special events and deals to honor that legacy, including Red Rooster.

Prince Harry speaks about race, marks UK Black History Month
LONDON – Prince Harry has spoken about his “awakening” to race issues as he and his wife, Meghan, launched an anti-racism campaign to mark Black History Month in the U.K. He stressed that his and Meghan's campaign wasn’t about “pointing the finger, it is not about blame.”“This is about learning. And about how we can make it better,” he said, speaking from the couple’s home in Santa Barbara, California. The couple released a list of Black people recognized for challenging prejudice, calling them “next gen trailblazers,” along with an opinion piece in the newspaper. Meghan, a former American actress known as Meghan Markle, identifies as biracial.

Since then, more than 100 drag queens have sashyed into the Werk Room to launch their careers, and the show has gone on to win 13 Emmy Awards, including two for Outstanding Competition Show. RuPaul became the most recognizable drag queen in America, but it wouldn’t be until the premiere of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” that took Ru and his empire to the global level. The premise of the show is pretty simple: RuPaul and his esteemed panel of judges are searching for America’s next drag superstar. It’s hard to imagine an out and proud drag queen becoming such a success, let alone a drag queen of color to become the face and name of the art of drag. It’s like what RuPaul says at the end of every episode of “Drag Race:" If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell can you love somebody else?

With the help of team members and guests, the store has created a Black History Month collection, including an exclusive product assortment. The company explained on its website that its Black History Month assortment puts a spotlight on the heritage, legacy and impact of the black community. Another thing that’s worth noting: One-third of the products in the Black Beyond Measure collection are from black-owned businesses, including Lip Bar and Alikay Naturals. Kellen Axen, a senior manager of reports and insights, said the “I am Black History” shirt has a real significance to him. About 100 years later, Harlem Renaissance impact still being celebrated
That might sound contradictory and impossible by math standards, but that partly explains the greatness of the Harlem Renaissance. The result was the birth of the Harlem Renaissance, a cultural, artistic, social and intellectual explosion that spanned the entire Roaring ’20s. One of his most recognized works was a poem called “Madam and the Minister,” which spoke of the mood toward religion in the Harlem Renaissance. One of the writers of the Harlem Renaissance, Hurston was a key contributor to a magazine called “Fire! There no doubt will be good celebrations in 2020, but, given the Harlem Renaissance was more than just a one-year movement, the tributes will be lasting for years to come.
