MIAMI – The now-closed United Martial Arts Academy in Homestead defrauded a local government program to help children in need of about $300,000 between 2015 and 2017, prosecutors said on Wednesday. Investigators believe the academy, co-owned by Enrique Regalado and Kelly Mendoza, was defrauding The Children’s Trust, which has been funded by taxpayers in Miami-Dade County since 2002. State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle released a statement saying The Children’s Trust reported the case to investigators and prosecutors. ā€œThe alleged theft of Children’s Trust funds hurts those kids who need help the most,ā€ Fernandez Rundle said. The Children’s Trust reported the 2020-21 general fund budget allocated $157.5 million to contracted programs in Miami-Dade County.

Florida day care writes on child’s tummy to remind mother to bring diapers

Read full article: Florida day care writes on child’s tummy to remind mother to bring diapers

SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. – A Florida mother was shocked to find her young son’s day care had written on his stomach in black ink to remind her to bring more diapers. Heather Chisum posted photos of her son Milo to Facebook after she found the Sanibel Island day care’s message on the boy’s tummy. Chisum, a single mother, said the day care usually puts a daily report in her children’s lunch boxes, detailing her son or daughter’s behavior and whether they need additional wipes or diapers. But while changing Milo’s diaper after bringing him home Monday, Chisum noticed the message written in magic marker. In her post, Chisum asked whether she was over-exaggerating in her anger, but nearly everyone who commented backed her up wholeheartedly.
