The matter was cleared up by Miami-Dade Police, which issued a statement that read:“Miami-Dade Police Department, Village of Palmetto Bay units received reports of a military-style vehicle observed on the Village roads. “It’s a poor choice of timing to have military equipment like that in a residential neighborhood,” resident James Woodard said.

Officers surrounded the building at 10700 Caribbean Blvd., near Southland Mall. Once the man surrendered, officers found he was not armed. After Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel examined him, officers decided to detain him and take him to a nearby hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, police said.

Witnesses told police that there was first a verbal argument, which then led to a physical fight. During the fight, gunfire was exchanged and three men, ages 18, 19 and 52, were shot, police said. Two of the victims were transported to Jackson South Medical Center, where one was in critical condition and the other listed as stable. Miami-Dade police and Cutler Bay police are investigating.
