Miami-Dade prosecutors upgraded a charge against the 24-year-old man who was involved in a recent fatal crash on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach.

A man who allegedly was driving drunk before crashing into a disabled vehicle last week on the MacArthur Causeway appeared in court Tuesday.

Two people were injured in a car crash that occurred early Friday morning on the MacArthur Causeway at Terminal Isle, Miami Beach police confirmed to Local 10 News.

The latest attempt to implement a water taxi connecting downtown Miami and South Beach appears to have sunk in short order.

A new traffic pattern began Wednesday morning on the westbound lanes of the MacArthur Causeway, just west of Watson Island, and on the ramp to Exit 2, Biscayne Boulevard.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A crash on the MacArthur Causeway sent one person to the hospital. According to Miami Beach police, a driver in a motorized three-wheeler struck four bicyclists on the sidewalk Monday afternoon. One woman was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital with a head injury. The westbound lanes of the causeway were shut down for several hours as officers investigated. There has been no update provided on the injured woman’s health.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Miami Beach police closed MacArthur Causeway in both directions Saturday night after they followed a group of riders on ATVs and dirt bikes. When they tried to stop the riders, 2 abandoned their vehicles and fled, according to police. Around 9:20 p.m., police said the causeway was reopened to traffic and that they had four subjects in custody. Just before 8 p.m., Miami Beach police reported they were searching for someone with a gun who fled from officers and they had closed the causeway in both directions. MB Police did not confirm if any of the subjects taken into custody were armed or if it they had arrested anyone who had fled the scene.

Witnesses shared videos of Friday morning’s leak with Miami Waterkeeper and advocates reported the sewage to authorities. Authorities issued a no swim advisory after a pipe leaked about 120,000 gallons of sewage into Biscayne Bay on Friday. MIAMI – New artist renderings show a proposed monorail that would run along the MacArthur Causeway, connecting downtown Miami to Miami Beach. They come from the Miami Beach Monorail Consortium, the main investor of which is Meridiam, the development firm that also managed the PortMiami tunnel project. Meridiam is described by a company spokesperson as the “main investor and developer of the Miami Beach Monorail Consortium”. “We look forward to working with the Miami-Dade County administration and the community over the next 12 to 18 months to lay critical planning, engineering and budgeting groundwork for the Miami Beach Monorail. The proposed monorail - if passed - would be the first time rail would connect Miami to Miami Beach since the streetcar system of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. Groups of riders were traveling recklessly through traffic on Friday night in South Beach, police said. Miami Beach police officers arrested five suspects and seized 14 All-terrain vehicles and five dirt bikes. Video shows the riders speeding on Washington Avenue and 16th Street in the entertainment district near Lincoln Road. Officers also saw them on the MacArthur Causeway that connects downtown Miami with South Beach. MIAMI - A crash between a car and a golf cart caused a traffic mess on the MacArthur Causeway. Westbound lanes of the causeway were closed for hours as authorities investigated the crash. Police said a man was ejected from the golf cart. Fire rescue responded to the crash and took the man that fell from the golf cart to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Two Florida men were arrested Sunday after leading officers on a brief chase out of Miami Beach and onto the MacArthur Causeway. According to authorities, two officers in a marked police vehicle were flagged down while on patrol in Miami Beach and told of an alleged robbery that had just taken place at a nearby Walgreens. The Corolla, which police said was being driven by 34-year-old John Albert Jr., began traveling westbound on the MacArthur Causeway while weaving in and out of traffic, police said. It didn't come easy for officers though, as according to a police report, Albert jumped off the causeway and into the ocean before being taken into custody. Police also charged Albert with reckless driving and felony counts of fleeing police, leaving the scene of a crash and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach police are seeking to identify a woman who they believe might have information about a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier this month. Rodriguez confirmed Tuesday that city surveillance cameras at 15th Street and Collins Avenue captured the woman walking with a man just after 8 p.m. Aug. 9. He said the duo were then captured on camera just after 1 a.m. Aug. 10 returning to a parking garage where the vehicle involved in the fatal crash was parked. "We are looking to identify this woman, who we believe may have information into this deadly hit-and-run." Anyone with information about the woman's identity or the hit-and-run crash is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Miami Beach Police Department detectives are searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a cyclist on Saturday morning on the MacArthur Causeway. Detectives found the vehicle involved, but they have yet to release the description of the driver. Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said the driver was speeding on the westbound lane reserved for bicyclists. Rodriguez didn't release the name of the victim saying relatives had yet to be notified. Savage said officials with the city of Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County and the Florida Highway Patrol need to work on public safety.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A bicyclist died after a hit-and-run crash on MacArthur Causeway early Saturday morning in Miami Beach. Miami Beach Police Department detectives are searching for the driver who fled after the 1:20 a.m. crash along the westbound lanes of MacArthur Causeway. "The driver went on to the shoulder and bicycle lane of the causeway where they unfortunately struck and killed a cyclist." A witness who remained on the scene spoke to police officers and the was closed until about 11:15 a.m. Officers were asking drivers leaving Miami Beach to use the Julia Tuttle Causeway or the Venetian Causeway. Rodriguez said traffic homicide investigators recovered the vehicle believed in the crash and they are still searching for a suspect.

Officials said the project would connect three major highways, but the construction could cause some delays on the road in the meantime. Construction will begin Monday to build the foundations that will support the signature bridge. "It involves construction on 836 where we're adding an additional level -- a double deck level," Gonzalez said. The project includes construction of the bridge on the MacArthur Causeway, which was announced earlier this year, as well as additional lanes to the infamous Dolphin Expressway ramp to Interstate 95. MIAMI - A semi-truck crashed and ended up partially over the guardrail Wednesday morning on Interstate 395. The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-395 at Northeast Second Avenue, just before the MacArthur Causeway. A view from Sky 10 showed the front left wheel of the truck's cab hanging over the guardrail. The cause of the crash wasn't immediately known.

Miami police officers closed two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane between the Miami Children's Museum and Jungle Island. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A broken down bus caused a brief shutdown of the westbound lanes on the MacArthur Causeway near Miami Beach. Traffic cameras showed the Miami-Dade County bus stuck across all lanes as it seemingly attempted to make a u-turn. The bus was quickly removed from the area and traffic returned to normal.
