MIAMI – A day after touring the U.S. southern border in Texas, Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-FL District 26 described what he saw as a ā€œhumanitarian crisis.ā€Gimenez discussed touring a facility that housed hundreds of migrant children between the ages of 4 and 17. ā€œIt really broke my heart to see those hundreds of kids,ā€ he said in a news conference at Miami International Airport. Adā€œWe feel it’s due to the change of policy of the Biden administration, and we call on the Biden administration to reverse that stance,ā€ Gimenez said Tuesday. Gimenez says the president should visit the border. Gimenez said the group of lawmakers was also told Monday by those protecting the border that they need more Customs and Border Patrol agents and need certain portions of the border wall finished, in addition to better technology.

MIAMI – During a live appearance Sunday on Local 10′s ā€œThis Week in South Florida,ā€ new Congresswoman Maria Salazar accused her predecessor Donna Shalala of ā€œrefusingā€ to transfer constituents’ case work in the transition between offices after the November election. ā€œNot in any moment in time [was there a refusal to help in the transition],ā€ Shalala’s former deputy chief of staff Raul Martinez, Jr. said. AdSalazar said Shalala’s office notified her office of just two or three cases. While there is no indication Shalala’s office willfully refused to transition the cases, Salazar stands by her accusation. Salazar’s interview on ā€œThis Week in South Floridaā€ can be watched below:

Portugal's armed forces help nursing homes battle the virus

Read full article: Portugal's armed forces help nursing homes battle the virus

As a resurgence of the pandemic in the fall looked set to overwhelm Portuguese care homes, the government mobilized all the resources it could. Some of the home’s residents, suddenly confined to their rooms or their floor, were bewildered and chafed at restrictions, even trying to take the elevator and escape confinement. The soldiers’ mission: fan out across the country to visit hundreds of nursing homes and help shore up their defenses against the pandemic. On top of that, nursing home staff in Portugal commonly work in several different care homes and travel between them on public transport. They have already been to more than half of the targeted 2,770 care homes.
