MIAMI, Fla. – A $7,000 reward to help find the person responsible for a woman’s death a year ago was announced Wednesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Gonzalez was shot on Jan. 3 while driving south on I-95, near the 79th Street exit in the West Little River neighborhood. FDOT tells Local 10 News’ Christina Vazquez the live real-time traffic monitoring cameras help first responders with situational awareness. Miami Crimestoppers is offering $5,000 towards the $7,000 reward, while Nunez has added $2,000. She is begging someone to come forward with information to help police solve her daughter’s case.

Two cars with bullet holes and two drivers on Interstate 95, both happening around 11 a.m. Friday, and FHP said there were about 12 shots fired. It started in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 when a driver called police to tell them he needed help because someone shot out his back window. FHP arrived to the scene where the SUV driver had pulled over, near Exit 11, the Northwest 151st Street exit. We counted at least 7 bullet holes in the Dodge Challenger. HIALEAH, Fla. – A funeral was held Thursday for a young woman who was fatally shot two weeks ago on Interstate 95. Police said Melissa Gonzalez, 22, was shot Jan. 3 while driving in the southbound lanes of I-95 near the 79th Street exit. “Please, you know what you have to do,” Gonzalez’s uncle, Justo Nunez, said of whoever is responsible for the shooting. Her father arrived from Cuba earlier this week to join her mother and family as they say their goodbyes while still seeking justice. MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man that heard gunfire at the same time a young woman was shot and killed on Interstate 95 is discussing what happened that night. Melissa Gonzalez, 22, was killed earlier this month while driving on I-95 in West Little River. The man who heard the gunfire does not want to be identified because he fears whoever killed Gonzalez could go after him too. He told Local 10 News he was standing in a parking lot near the highway when he heard a series of rapid-fire gunshots. The man said he dropped to the ground as soon as the bullets went flying on the night of Jan. 3.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Melissa Gonzalez, 22, was shot Friday night while driving south on I-95, near the 79th Street exit in the West Little River neighborhood. Gonzalez’s boyfriend, identified by troopers as Julian Veliz Cortina, 26, was also in the car and heard a gunshot. Monday, Gonzalez’s mother, Sheilla Nunez, expressed her extreme grief after losing her daughter, who she brought to South Florida from Cuba at age four. Speaking Monday, Nunez thanked Senator Marco Rubio for helping attempt to bring Gonzalez’s father from Cuba to lay his daughter to rest. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs, which can be found here.
