Southern California Edison said it's considering cutting power to more than 100,000 customers in eight counties. Liccardo urged residents to shelter in place, as street lights and signals will not be working if there's no power. Late last month, PG&E cut power to more than 48,000 northern California customers as a precaution in dry and windy conditions. It was the second consecutive public safety power shutoff in that week following outages that affected about 24,000 customers in three northern counties. The utility giant announced last month it had reached an $11 billion settlement with insurance companies for claims stemming from the devastating 2017 wildfires across Northern California and the 2018 Camp Fire.

All San Jose, California gun owners could be required to purchase liability insurance for their weapons under a proposed city ordinance. SAN JOSE, Calif. - In the wake of mass shootings around the country, the mayor of one California city wants to require all gun owners to carry liability insurance for their weapons. Offering just "thoughts and prayers" was not enough for the San Jose mayor after two families in his city lost children in the Gilroy shooting. In addition to the insurance requirement, Liccardo proposed a gun and ammunition sales tax to fund gun safety classes, violence prevention programs, and additional victim assistance services for survivors of gun violence. The mayor's proposals will undergo a preliminary approval on Wednesday before being presented to the San Jose City Council.
