PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Whether you see it as a welcome surprise from Santa or just a lump of cold, South Florida is getting a chilly Christmas this year. That would be the coldest Christmas Day here since the 1990s. South Florida could see some spotty showers on Christmas Eve as the cold front moves in. If #Miami has a high temperature of 63° on #Christmas as is forecast, it will be the coldest Christmas high since 1995 (and 1983 before that). The record coldest Christmas high is 51°, set in 1983.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Santa dropping gifts through your chimney is going to coincide with temperatures dropping across South Florida. While we can expect a warm Christmas Eve, Local 10 meteorologist Luke Dorris forecasts that the Christmas Day high temperature will be before sunrise, with the mercury then falling throughout Friday. He has the forecast high for Friday at 66 degrees, which would be the coolest Christmas in Miami this century — since 1999, to be exact. Much of South Florida could see temps as low as the 50s on Christmas, and it will get even colder heading into Saturday, when low temperatures are forecasted to dip into the 40s and some parts of the region could experience wind chills in the 30s. For the latest forecast information, head over to the Local 10 Weather Authority page.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – You can start dreaming of a cool Christmas, South Florida. The forecast high for Friday in Miami is 66 degrees, Local 10 meteorologist Julie Durda says, which would be the city’s coldest Christmas Day since 1999. That cold front could bring some scattered showers to dampen Santa’s travels through South Florida on Christmas Eve. After you open your presents, Julie is projecting that the coldest air of the season will come Saturday — with temperatures potentially dropping into the 40s. And fellow Local 10 meteorologist Luke Dorris says temperatures that low make it possible for frozen iguanas to start dropping from the trees.

Miami-Dade County is currently looking for proposals to replace the makeshift theme park which resides at Tropical Park for nearly two months at the end of every year. Since 1984, the owners of Santa’s Enchanted Forest have leased the land from the county with the current agreement set to expire on March 14. With rides, food stands and holiday displays featuring more than three million lights, Santa’s Enchanted Forest has become a holiday favorite and traditional visit for many in South Florida. PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Depending on which country they’re from, the kids may ask about Father Christmas, Papa Noel, Saint Nick or Santa Claus. But they all want to know one thing: where in the world the jolly old man and his sleigh full of gifts are on Christmas Eve. Operation NORAD Tracks Santa has evolved from a misdirected telephone call in 1955, to a trailer parked outside the command’s former lair deep inside Cheyenne Mountain, to NORAD ’s modern-day headquarters at Colorado’s Peterson Air Force Base. And it takes a village of 1,500 volunteers to field emails and the 140,000 or so telephone calls to 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723). Volunteers are equipped with an Operations Center Playbook that helps ensure each and every caller can go to sleep happy and satisfied on Christmas Eve.
