MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Cheryl Butzier, an oncology nurse, had an idea when she learned her 60-year-old leukemia patient is a San Francisco 49ers fan. She has a cousin who works for the Bay Area team, so she called in a favor. The San Francisco 49ers sent a fan package to Oscar Jones Jr., who has been getting treatment for about six months at the Mercy Health St. Anne Cancer Center in Toledo, Ohio. “They surprised me for real,” Jones told a WTVG reporter. He said he will be using it to celebrate the San Francisco 49ers’ victory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

It will be the largest number of employees who will be staying home the day after the Super Bowl since the Workforce Institute at Kronos, which conducts research on strategic human capital management, has been tracking the trend. Out of the 17.5 million, only about 11.1 million requested the day off, about 4.7 million will be using a sick day, and about 1.5 million will vanish or “ghost” their employer for the day, according to the survey. The behavior will be similar during the Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the U.S. presidential election in November.

During the week leading up to the big game, local, state and federal agencies, along with the military, are working together to keep Florida skies safe. The idea is, the less time any F-15's have to spend on the ground refueling, the more time they can be patrolling the skies. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Federal Aviation Administration is warning fliers of hobbyist drones to comply with temporary “No Drone Zones” in Miami-Dade County or face penalties of more than $30,000. The temporary flight restrictions are in effect in areas of South Beach, downtown Miami and Miami Gardens, where there are National Football League events during Super Bowl LIV week. The ban applies to one nautical mile around the Miami Beach Convention Center, at 1901 Convention Center Dr., and Bayfront Park, at Biscayne Blvd., and it is in place until Saturday. On Sunday, the FAA is prohibiting drones around the Hard Rock Stadium, at 347 Don Shula Dr.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – With less than a week before the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers take the field for Super Bowl LIV, final preparations are underway to transform Hard Rock Stadium into a Super Bowl-ready venue. “We have to add decor elements in all areas to really have this -- have the look and feel, literally, of the Super Bowl,” Eric Finkelstein, NFL director of events, told Local 10 News on Tuesday. Because of the game’s location, the stadium menu features a lot of Latin influence this year. MIAMI – To impress Super Bowl LIV fans, airport officials in South Florida are doing what they can to make sure the airports are clean, well decorated and feel welcoming before the game. Miami International Airport in Miami-Dade County will be playing welcoming messages from Miami Dolphins’ legends Dan Marino, Nat Moore and Jason Taylor. Transportation Security Administration is preparing for a record-departure day with additional checkpoints and more trained dogs. Authorities are asking Super Bowl LIV fans to pack their commemorative programs in carry-on bags and plan to go through security two hours before departure. The FAA has placed special air traffic procedures in place at MIA, FLL, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Miami-Opa Locka Airport, Miami Executive Airport, Boca Raton Airport, Palm Beach International Airport, Pompano Beach Airpark and North Perry Airport.

Sabra Dipping, a joint venture between PepsiCo and the Strauss Group, chose Sang-Young Sin, known as KimChi, and Maxwell Heller, known as Miz Cracker, for their RiDIPulous campaign. PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Hard Rock Stadium could just be the last of its kind when it comes to modern-day Super Bowl venues. It was 1976 -- the same year the old Orange Bowl hosted Super Bowl X -- that Robbie first gave thought to building a new home for his professional football team. (WPLG)Consider that Hard Rock Stadium is the oldest still-standing stadium to entertain a Super Bowl since 2013 and second-oldest since San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium hosted one in 2003. Aside from the 46-year-old Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans (which remains the most antiquated Super Bowl stadium in the regular rotation), all of the host venues in the decade since Super Bowl XLIV have been built in the last 20 years. While it’s rare that a stadium of its age is hosting a Super Bowl in the year 2020, Hard Rock Stadium certainly isn’t alone.

There will be a lot of people dressed in red walking around Miami during Super Bowl week. The matchup for Super Bowl LIV is set, as it will be the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 2 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Chiefs will be making their first appearance in a Super Bowl since winning Super Bowl IV 50 years ago, while the 49ers are making their seventh Super Bowl appearance and first since losing to Baltimore in Super Bowl XLVII back in 2013. The last time the 49ers won a Super Bowl was when they beat San Diego in Super Bowl XXIX at then-Joe Robbie Stadium in 1995. The 49ers also won Super Bowl XXIII in Miami, beating Cincinnati 20-16.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – For a small fee and a 30-minute quiz, South Floridians can actively participate in a “bowl” game that kicks off just before the Super Bowl heads to Miami. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission hosted media Thursday for a pre-game scrimmage for the Florida Python Challenge 2020 “Python Bowl,” which will give professional and rookie snake catchers the chance to compete to see who can catch the most and biggest snakes starting Jan. 10. Also joining DeSantis and FWC officials were members from the South Florida Water Management District and the Frost Museum of Science. Additionally, Miami Super Bowl LIV Host Committee members were on hand as this year’s challenge ties into Super Bowl LIV and the committee’s Oceans to Everglades initiative. A new report says Jennifer Lopez is "in talks" to take the stage in one of the biggest concerts of the year.
