NEW YORK The United States will open qualifying for the 2022 World Cup on the road next June, possibly back in Trinidad and Tobago where it was eliminated from reaching the 2018 tournament. The Americans will close their 14-match round in March 2022 at Costa Rica, where they have lost seven straight qualifiers. The Americans are among five nations with direct berths in the final round of qualifying known as the octagonal joined by Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras and Jamaica. CONCACAF had used the hexagonal for the final round of qualifying for the World Cups of 1998 through 2018. Canada headed six teams seeded into first-round groups that play a single round robin, with two games each in October and November.

The National Hurricane Center has been tracking a small tropical disturbance technically a tropical wave just east of the southern Caribbean islands. The tropical moisture channel feeding into that system has been just south of the Florida peninsula. The entire system the circulation and its moisture feed will slowly start to lift north later today, increasing the tropical moisture over South Florida. Our chance of heavy thunderstorms will increase a bit today, with the moisture plume arriving in earnest tonight. (CIRA/NOAA)The core of the moisture channel is forecast to be over South Florida tomorrow and Friday, meaning periods of heavy rain are expected.

CNN Weather(CNN) - Tropical Storm Karen formed just east of the Windward Islands and has sustained winds of 40 mph. A tropical storm warning has been issued for Trinidad and Tobago, along with Grenada and its dependencies. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within the next 12 hours. A tropical storm watch will likely be required for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands later Sunday, and tropical storm warnings may be issued for other areas in the Windward Islands later this morning. Karen will then approach Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Tuesday as a tropical storm.

Peter McIntyre, the Navy medical site coordinator, said the Venezuelan refugees had access to physicians from the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Army. According to Lt. Gen. Michael Plehn, deputy commander of U.S. Southern Command, it was the first time the hospital ship had visited Trinidad and Tobago since 2007. The hospital ship, which has been on a five-month deployment, has also made stops in Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, Colombia and Curacao.
