The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory for Turks and Caicos Islands.

After forming in the western Caribbean, Tropical Storm Nadine was away from Florida and impacted Central America on Saturday.

Hurricane Fiona strengthened into a Category 4 storm Wednesday after devastating Puerto Rico, then lashing the Dominican Republic and the Turks and Caicos Islands. It was forecast to squeeze past Bermuda later this week.

MIAMI – Sri Kajamukam Chelliah met with migrants from Sri Lanka in Haiti, and traveled by boat with them to Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and to Miami, federal authorities said. Chelliah, 55, also known as Richie, worked with human smugglers to arrange the migrants’ stay at a hotel in Port-au-Prince, and to board a sloop sailboat with about 154 migrants, prosecutors said. Chelliah, a Canadian national, served a year in prison in Turks and Caicos. Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L. McQuaid released a statement accusing Chelliah of jeopardizing national security for financial gain. AdHomeland Security Investigations Miami investigated the case with the help of HSI Human Smuggling Unit and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

MIAMI – Witnesses shared videos on Tuesday of what appeared to be a submarine-launched ballistic missile off Florida’s Atlantic coast, but the U.S. Navy had yet to release a statement on Wednesday morning. The U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s maritime advisory system issued warnings about “hazardous operations” in the Atlantic Ocean and missile operations in the Pacific. The advisory’s hazardous-area coordinates were east of Port Canaveral and further south near Ascension Island. There were witnesses as far north as Christiansburg, Virginia, and as far south as the Turks and Caicos Islands. AdAccording to the Federation of American Scientists, the Trident II long-range submarine-launched nuclear missile has an operational range of about 7,000 miles.
