Authorities investigate deadly crash on Sawgrass Expressway in Sunrise

SUNRISE, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a deadly crash that occurred on the Sawgrass Expressway in Sunrise early Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway near Oakland Park Boulevard’s exit ramp.

Video from Sky 10 showed the aftermath of the violent collision, with debris scattered across the roadway and at least two tarps covering victims.

One vehicle appeared to be split in two, as crews used flatbed trucks to haul away the wreckage.

All northbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway were closed for several hours, forcing morning commuters to exit the highway and causing heavy delays throughout Broward County. The roadway partially reopened shortly after 10 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol has not yet released the total number of fatalities, the identities of those killed or details on what led to the crash.
