Florida Keys schools closing Wednesday as Milton approaches

KEY WEST, Fla. – Public schools in the Florida Keys will be closed Wednesday as Hurricane Milton approaches the Sunshine State, according to a school district social media post.

Officials with the Monroe County School District said district facilities would remain open Tuesday and decisions on Tuesday after-school activities “will be made at the school level.”

Miami-Dade and Broward district officials also announced school closures for Wednesday, with Broward County Public Schools also canceling classes for Thursday.

While forecasters don’t expect a direct hit from Milton in South Florida, the entire area was under a tropical storm warning as of Tuesday morning.
