High waters in northeast Miami-Dade pose issue for tow trucks trying to reach stranded drivers

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Multiple vehicles remained stalled in the middle of Northeast 16th Avenue in Miami-Dade County Friday morning, blocking the roadway after the area was pummeled by inches upon inches of rain.

Area residents parked their cars on whatever higher ground they could find.

“I’m gonna say (we had) probably like around 100 calls within the span of two hours,” Carol Diaz, with Dolphin Towing and Recovery, said. “It got to a point that we had to stop going through here because our tow trucks were borderline about to get flooded.”

Diaz shared cellphone video of the effort to get a tow truck to stranded vehicles.

“Cars would, like, have the water going up to the roof,” she said. “We even had to give people rides. They were, like, jumping on the sides of the trucks and everything like that to try to be able to get to higher land. It was pretty insane, to be honest with you.”
