PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – National Hurricane Center meteorologists in Miami reported Sunday afternoon that a well-defined area of low pressure could become the next tropical depression in the Atlantic.
According to NHC, the system was several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands on Sunday. It was forecast to remain in “an unfavorable environment” over the next few days, but conditions could become more favorable as it moves west.
The tropical depression could form as the system begins moving west-northwestward and approaches or moves near the Leeward Islands by the end of this week. Its formation chance through 48 hours is low at 10%, and the formation through 7 days is medium at 40%.
Floridians are recovering from two hurricanes, Helene and Milton, which made landfall after gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico in just 13 days. The official end of the Atlantic hurricane season is Nov. 30.
